Navigating New Chapters: My Return to Blogging Amidst Motherhood’s Embrace
Hello, dear readers! It feels both incredibly strange and wonderfully familiar to be typing these words again. After a significant, yet necessary, ten-month hiatus, I’m thrilled to announce that I’m back – well, in a new, evolving capacity, at least.
The past year has been nothing short of transformative. What began as a steady routine of content creation and sharing recipes quickly shifted into an entirely new rhythm of life. During this period, I made the profound decision to leave my full-time job, embracing the journey of becoming a stay-at-home mom. And perhaps the most significant, heart-filling event of all: I welcomed my beautiful son into the world. He’s now six and a half months old, and every day with him is a new adventure.
Meet Hugo, the newest (and loudest) member of our family.

I know, I know – I’m incredibly biased, but Hugo truly is the most beautiful, joyful little human, and I absolutely cannot get enough of him. Every day is a milestone. He’s already sporting a proud set of six tiny teeth, which makes for some very interesting (and sometimes challenging) mealtimes! He’s mastered crawling with impressive speed, navigating our home like a tiny, determined explorer. Most recently, he’s discovered the thrill of pulling himself up to a standing position, eagerly practicing his balance and surveying his domain from a new vantage point. Watching him grow and learn fills my heart with an indescribable amount of love and wonder.
The Beautiful Chaos of New Motherhood and Its Impact on Blogging
While the joys of motherhood are boundless, the realities of being a new mom – especially one who is currently unemployed and focused on nurturing her family – are undeniably challenging. My days are now a beautiful, unpredictable mosaic of feeding schedules, nappy changes, playtime, cuddles, and attempting to squeeze in household chores during precious nap times. This new rhythm means that the luxury of dedicating extensive time and resources to elaborate cooking, meticulous food photography, and detailed recipe writing has become a rare commodity.
The truth is, creating blog content, particularly in the realm of food, demands a significant investment. It requires time for recipe development and testing, sourcing specific ingredients, hours spent in the kitchen, careful styling, multiple photo shoots to capture the process and the final product, editing those photos, and then crafting a comprehensive, engaging blog post. Currently, with a curious and energetic 6.5-month-old dictating much of my schedule, that kind of dedicated focus is simply not feasible. My budget, too, has shifted, making it harder to justify experimenting with expensive ingredients for blog-specific recipes.
This situation has left me feeling a bit stuck, navigating a crossroads of passion and practicality. I absolutely do not want to abandon this platform, this creative outlet, and the community we’ve built here. However, I also can’t pretend to be fully back in the swing of things, producing content in the same way I did before Hugo arrived. The “old normal” for the blog simply doesn’t fit into my “new normal” life right now.
Daily Delights (That Aren’t Quite Blog-Worthy Yet)
In terms of what I am making these days, my culinary repertoire has become delightfully simple and efficient. Breakfast is almost invariably a hearty bowl of oatmeal – quick, nutritious, and perfectly suited for fueling a busy mom. Dinners often fall into the “throw-whatever-you’ve-got-into-a-big-pan” category. These one-pan wonders are incredibly practical, minimizing cleanup, maximizing flavor with minimal effort, and often doubling as a delicious, ready-to-go lunch for the next day. They’re packed with vegetables, proteins, and grains, ensuring our family stays well-fed.
While both my morning oatmeal and these resourceful dinners are undeniably delicious and nourish my family perfectly, they’re not exactly what one would describe as aesthetically pleasing. The beauty of food blogging often lies in visual appeal, and my current everyday meals, while fantastic for taste and convenience, don’t always lend themselves to magazine-worthy photographs. Furthermore, the limited natural light available during our dinner hour often makes capturing appetizing images a significant challenge, resulting in photos that just don’t do the food justice.
Seeking Your Guidance: Where Should This Blog Go Next?
This brings me to a crucial point, and why I’m reaching out to you, my wonderful readers. I’m at a point where I’m actively exploring new directions for this blog, aiming to align it with my current life while still offering valuable, engaging content. I truly need your feedback and guidance to help shape the future of this space.
Option 1: Embracing a Non-Food “Ai Made” Approach
One area I’ve become incredibly passionate about lately is creating a healthier, more sustainable home environment for my family. I’m in the ongoing process of transitioning away from commercially bought cleaning and body care products, replacing them with DIY alternatives that are non-toxic, gentle, and often more budget-friendly. Think homemade laundry detergent, all-purpose cleaners, natural lotions, or even simple baby-friendly balms.
Technically, these are still things “Ai made” – just not in the kitchen! Would you be interested in seeing more of these types of posts? I could share recipes for natural cleaning solutions, tutorials for crafting homemade skincare, and discuss the benefits of a low-tox lifestyle. This could be a fascinating way to expand the blog’s scope while remaining true to the spirit of creating and sharing practical, handmade solutions.
Option 2: Diving into the World of Parenting and New Mom Experiences
Alternatively, should I embrace the most significant shift in my life and start posting parenting-related content? My journey as a new mom has been a steep learning curve, filled with incredible highs and a fair share of challenges. I’ve learned so much, discovered invaluable products, and navigated numerous firsts.
I could share “baby must-haves” – from essential gear and clever gadgets that truly make a difference, to favorite books and toys that promote development. We could explore new mom experiences, delving into topics like navigating sleep deprivation, breastfeeding journeys (or formula feeding, whatever your path), postpartum recovery, managing baby-led weaning, finding moments for self-care, and balancing the demands of family life. This would allow me to connect with fellow parents, share honest insights, and build a supportive community around the shared adventure of raising little ones.
I believe there’s immense value in sharing these real-life experiences, offering support, and perhaps even a bit of comic relief to those embarking on or currently deep within the parenting journey. It’s a natural extension of my life right now, and I have so many thoughts and experiences I’d love to share.
